Dearest Abba,

 

I love you, my God!

 

I awoke this morning

                thinking about

                what happened yesterday

                during the move,

Wondering whether or not

                I should say

                anything about it.

 

It seems a deliberate,

                personal affront.

But I will wait for you

                to tell me.

I don’t want to be whiney

                or judgmental.

And I want to trust you

                for ways to clean,

                repair,

                and restore.

I am trusting you

                for ways to clean,

                repair,

                and restore!

 

Dearest Abba,

                what would you like

                to say to me?

My dearest Debra,

 

Oh, how I love you, my child!

 

Do not look at things

                through human eyes,

Or spiritualize situations

                to try to understand them.

Ask me for my perspective.

Ask me how I see things,

And what I want you

                to notice

                and learn

                from them.

 

Let me lead you

                and guide you

In everything you do,

                everything that others do,

                and all the circumstances

                that touch your life.

Put aside your own judgments

                and lean not

                on your own understanding—

Even your understanding

                of scripture

                and of my ways—

And let me guide you.

 

I will take care

                of the extra two days

                of work

So that you can attend

                the conference

                in peace.

I will take care of it for you.

I am the LORD your God.

I will put you where I want you,

                and I will clear a path

                to get you there.

I did it for you this weekend,

                and I will do it

                again and again

                whenever it needs

                to be done.

 

I will take care

                of the cabinet.

I will take care

                of the pink chair

                and the desk.

I will take care

                of the lock

                on the putty file cabinet.

I will take care

                of all the details

                that pertain to you.

 

For I love you,

                and I have sworn

                to be your God,

                your Father

                your Husband,

                and your Comforter.

I, myself, will take care

                of all the details

                that pertain to you—

                your life,

                hopes,

                dreams—

                your details.

 

Did I not get my own hands dirty

                from the very beginning?

Did I not dig

                my very own fingers

                deep into the clay

                to form you?

Did I not fashion you,

                and allow the excess mud

                to splatter upon

                my pristine garments,

And stain the undersides              

                of my fingernails

                with grit?

Did I not spit into the earth

                my own saliva

                to create eyes for you

                to see your Creator?

 

I am not high and mighty,

                looking down

                my nose at you

                from lofty

                ivory towers!

No!

I am in the trenches with you

                in the middle of warfare!

I am the one

                flinging myself

                between you

                and flying shrapnel,

Handing you ammunition,

Yelling above the fray

                when to fire

                and when to duck

                your head.

 

I am the one

                running before you,

                deflecting

                the speeding bullets.

I am the one

Following behind you,

                guarding you

                from ambush.

I am the one

                surrounding you

                like a lookout tower

                of safety

                and wall

                of security.

And I am the one

                leading you

                in the offensive line

                against your fears.

 

It is I.

 

And when you misunderstand

                and take a misstep,

When you run ahead,

                or lag behind,

It is I who comes

                to your rescue

And brings you

                medical aid.

I am the one

                who hovers over you,

Doctoring you

                through surgery,

Nursing you

                back to health,

Comforting you

                with words

                of encouragement.

 

You have been under

                an onslaught—

Weird things,

                stupid things,

                undeserved things—

                coming against you.

You have felt their blows,

                and some

                have knocked you

                so hard

                they have caused you

                to stumble.

But you keep getting up,

                you keep moving forward,

And you keep turning to me

                trusting me,

                believing in me.

You keep putting

                my priorities first.

And you recover

                each time,

                stronger

                and stronger.

 

I will never leave you

                nor forsake you.

I am always here with you.

I always have the answer,

                the solution,

                the way out,

                the path forward.

I am committed to you

                and your well-being.

Keep committing to me,

                my lordship,

                my character,

                and my purpose.

 

Each battle will be

                a lesson,

                a step forward,

                a faith-firming experience.

And having done all,

                stand,

And keep the standard

                flying high.

I will hold you firm

                with my own hands,

And I will bring others

                to surround you

                and hold up your arms

                as you raise your hands

                to the sky

                with my standard.

 

These are simply

                practice skirmishes

                with your own affairs.

They are preparing you

                for confrontations

                with the entrenched enemy

                across the seas.

Let them harden

                your resolve

And set your face

                as flint.

 

You are my warrior bride.

Real swords clash

                with the opponent.

Stand firm.

I have won the victory.

You are merely required

                to establish

Your personal stand

                in my victory,

And your portion

                in the spoils

                I have taken.

 

This is your part:

                claiming

                and receiving

                and standing

                in your inheritance—

                your share

                in my triumph.

 

Cast down

                all vain imaginations.

Take EVERY thought captive

                to the obedience

                of Jesus Christ.

 

I have given you

                the wealth of the wicked.

Receive it from my hand.

I am offering it to you.

It is my will         

                for you to have it.

Take it,

                and steward it

                for my glory.

 

To whom much is given

                much is required.

Be faithful

                as I am faithful.

Your hands will be soiled;

                your fingernails will get dirty.

And my image will show forth

                through your blazing eyes

                and open heart

                for the glory

                of God,

                the Father.

 

This is your destiny.

Grab hold the sword

                and ride forth

                into the victory

                I have provided.

 

It will happen.

You will be,        

                and you will do.

I have written the decree,

                and you have signed

                with my blood.

It stands for eternity.

 

Have courage.

Stand tall

                with your head held high.

And ride forth

                in the confidence

                of my presence

                and favor.

 

So be it!

                for I’ve got you!
