The Pharisees thought they would establish the truth by studying the Scriptures. Jesus rebuked them and said they needed to actually come to Him to receive the truth (Jn. 5:39-40). Truth is not a book. Truth is a Person (Jn. 14:6).
For those who have read the Bible many times and are seeking a fresh inspiring version, I recommend The Passion Translation (TPT). I personally describe it as a paraphrase with a revelation of the workings of the Holy Spirit. This means it includes expanded descriptions of the intent of the verses by expounding on the revelation of the Holy Spirit’s power within each believer. My go-to Bible will continue to be the NASB as theological precision is key to me, but for devotional reading, I am glad to refer to The Passion Translation/paraphrase.
This email request came to me recently: “The newer translations of the Bible have missing words, missing whole verses. We are just wanting to be sure which are the most correct versions of the Bible? At first, righteous anger rose up, knowing no one is supposed to add or subtract anything from the Holy Bible. (How dare they?) We’ve seen the arguments on both sides. Bible meditation involves Jesus illuminating Scripture to our hearts. It is a direct living encounter with Jesus through the Holy Spirit. It is described in Luke 24:32, "Didn’t our hearts burn with the flames of holy passion while we walked beside him? He unveiled for us such profound revelation from the Scriptures!” (TPT)
