The disciples were aware that when Jesus prayed, things happened. He was tapping into the power of His Heavenly Father and then releasing that on earth. So one day they asked Him, "Lord, teach us to pray" (Matt. 6:8). Jesus responded with the guidance stated below, which we have laid out as a pattern which you can pray, and journal your responses to each section of the Lord's prayer.
Jesus said, “Pray then in this way: 'Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 'Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 'Give us this day our daily bread. 'And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” (Matt. 6:9-13).
All prayer steps MUST be infused and guided by the Holy Spirit
- Help from the Holy Spirit! We do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes (Rom. 8:26). Therefore we “Pray at all times in the Spirit” (Eph. 6:18).
- Spirit-let prayer is as simple as: 1) quieting down (Ps. 62:1-5), 2) beholding Jesus seated on His throne in heaven (Ps. 16:8; Acts 2:25), 3) asking for His revelation and tuning to flowing thoughts and flowing pictures (Jn. 7:37-39; Jer. 2:13), and 4) recording this flow (Hab. 2:1,2; Rev. 1:9-11). I then test it, ensuring it lines up with Scripture (Ps. 1:2; Jn. 10:35; 1 Thess. 5:2) and is affirmed in the hearts of my three spiritual advisors (2 Cor. 13:1; Prov. 11:14). See this link.

Soaking in His presence is where divine perspective is restored, allowing faith, hope, and love to bubble up. This restores meaning and health to my spirit, soul, and body (See: Ps. 73 – and note the transformation that takes place in vs. 16,17).
Beholding is a fascinating principle: Quantum physics has a phenomenon called the "observer effect," which, in the simplest terms, states that on a subatomic level, the nature of particles is affected simply by being observed. When the eyes of our heart focus on what God is doing, and we speak forth what we are seeing, we discover that His kingdom becomes manifest in our presence (Matt. 4:23; 12:28). It may or may not be an instant manifestation, however we have become a magnet drawing the power and presence of our king into our present day lives.
Prayer is more than reciting words. It is Divine Encounter. It takes the time to connect, honor, behold, experience His presence, His words, visions and emotions, and leave transformed through the process.
