Should Christians Be Involved in the Military? We Need Kings Like David.

A time for war and a time for peace. (Eccl. 3:8)

Since Jesus said we don’t take up a sword to fight because His kingdom is not of this world, maybe I should not get involved in the military or in governments. However if righteous people do not get involved then “The wicked surround the righteous; Therefore justice comes out perverted” (Hab. 1:4).

The church I got saved in did not believe in taking up guns or going to war, so when one of my brothers got drafted, he went in as a non-combatant. I was never drafted.

The German church didn’t unite to stop Hitler so millions died. Is that the solution we want today as evil once again rears its ugly head in politics and so many other areas of our society? Isn’t it time for us all to step into our God-given leadership positions and lead and not follow (Deut. 28:13)? WE can provide godly, righteous leadership in all spheres of our society. This is surely a key to discipling our nations (Matt. 28:19).

"When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, But when a wicked man rules, people groan." (Prov. 29:2)

Would I be a non-combatant if an intruder was raping my wife? Not on your life! I would use any means of force necessary to put a stop to it. The righteous are to defend the innocent. “Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, 'Behold, we did not know this,' does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? … Will he not repay…?" (Prov. 24:11-12 ESV)

"It [i.e. governmental authority] is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil." (Rom. 13:4)

We need kings like David. He was a spiritual leader, a political leader, and a financial leader. Let’s implant this vision in our children, friends and neighbors, so people are inspired to go after it.
