daily word - no failure

Dale Cresap's picture

Are you apprehensive about tests? Would you like to take a test you could not fail? Peter denied me three times and although you could argue that this was failure, I gave him a chance to redeem himself by doing it over. So you could view this as an opportunity to repeat rather than a failure. Wouldn’t you prefer to pass every test the first time? Then you could move on to other things with a sense of accomplishment, and not have to go through the cycle again. Have you been successful at this? What I did for Peter I will do for you. I will give you more opportunities to pass the test.

daily word - displacement

Dale Cresap's picture

Have you ever had an annoying tune go through your head? Have you tried to get rid of it and found this to be difficult? It is widely known that a boat displaces an amount of water equal to its own weight. If the boat were lifted out of the water the hole would not remain; water would rush in to fill it. The tune in your head is subject to the same principle. You can’t replace something with nothing. Pick a tune you like and use it to replace the annoying one. How many other examples of the principle of displacement can you think of that you can use to your advantage in your own life?

daily word - love

Dale Cresap's picture

What character traits would you expect of a loving God? What about those who follow him? Wouldn’t they be loving also? This is a reasonable expectation for those who claim to be transformed into his image and likeness. Would this love extend only to those who share the same beliefs? Believers who claim to follow a God who loves everyone should demonstrate this same love. What reward would they have if they only loved their friends? Doesn’t everyone do that? But when they love those who hate them it demonstrates a love beyond ordinary love; a love that is transcendent.

daily word - familiar Bible?

Dale Cresap's picture

Do you believe the Bible? Do you have favorite verses? Is it easy for you to turn to them from familiar use? Does the Bible speak to you with the same intensity that it did to the original audience? Have things that were shocking and radical to those who first heard them become diminished in impact through repeated exposure? You can develop immunity to diseases. Can you develop immunity to the Bible? What can you do to keep the message alive, to keep it fresh and new, and to respond to the challenge it gives to live beyond the life you currently live?

daily word - learn and teach

Dale Cresap's picture

Are you a student? Are you a teacher? There is an obvious fit between these two, but some people cease to be students and some never progress to being teachers. Yet you can be both your entire life and this is something to strive for. Do you see every person you meet as someone to learn from? This takes an attitude of humility to realize that even the most dull and ignorant people you meet know something that you don’t know, and that is worthwhile to know. I put this knowledge in them for a reason, and made it available to you through them.

daily word - Alchemy

Dale Cresap's picture

Are you familiar with the science of alchemy? This was based on the attempt to turn lead into gold and wasn’t really science and was not successful but was the forerunner of modern chemistry. The premise was that elements could be transformed into other elements by chemical means, which is false. Transformation isn’t easy and you may have discovered this for yourself in the pursuit of your own self-improvement projects. Against this background do you realize the enormity of my promise that your life can be transformed?

daily word - borrowing hope?

Dale Cresap's picture

What do you do when you need something that costs more than your available funds? The most common approach is to borrow the money. Where do you go if you need something that is not monetary in nature? What if you need hope or endurance? These are things you cannot get at the bank, but you can get them from me. I have all the resources you need. The bank you borrow money from has criteria that you must meet to qualify for a loan, and they are very specific about repayment terms. I hand out resources to anyone who asks, and do not ask for repayment.

daily word - emotional pain

Dale Cresap's picture

Do you feel emotional and well as physical pain? Do you feel vulnerable in emotional expression and exposure, and feel wounded and violated if nothing is reciprocated? Would it surprise you to find that I feel the same way? How do you react? The temptation is to put on a suit of emotional armor, to draw back and hold back and avoid the risk of exposure. But doing so would diminish your authentic expression of humanity. How do you see me responding? Do I not still reach out to seek the lost even when they reject me? I know it hurts.

daily word - stupidity or fear?

Dale Cresap's picture

What is the worst insult that can be offered today? Isn’t it that someone is stupid? In a culture that prizes cleverness this is a low blow. But have you found that the lack of cognitive ability is the greatest obstacle people face? You can learn facts more easily than you can change your ability to draw inferences from them. But isn’t it fear and insecurity that hold people back more than their level of intelligence? This isn’t just about earning potential. Fear can dominate your whole perception of reality. But fear is easier to change than intelligence.

daily word - community

Dale Cresap's picture

Are you looking for a community? Everyone needs a place to belong. This desire is deep in the human race. (I put it there on purpose). How fussy are you in selecting a community? You would prefer to find others who are in perfect alignment with you. Have you been able to find that? How close of a fit do you require for acceptance? People are tribal by nature, but I promised those who left their tribe to follow me would have a hundred times as many brothers and sisters in this life (along with their persecutions) and in the world to come, eternal life.
