On your job are you expected to follow company policies and procedures? Your employer who pays your wages probably expects this. In your job do you have any latitude for innovation and creativity? Most jobs include some aspects of both of these elements in various degrees. In another sense you are my servant, although you may look at this arrangement as being my staff member. How do you view your assignment in my Kingdom? Do you consider it a matter of rigid adherence to policies and procedures?

daily word - loose grip

Do you give to the poor? Do you consider it a virtue to be generous? Consider the generous people you know. Do they become poor by being generous? Don’t they seem to have an abundance from which to give? They can’t arbitrarily increase their resources from which to give, but I can. Some people can’t be trusted with money even from the perspective of personal integrity, but others can be trusted with the resources of heaven. If you regard what you have as a gift from me then it is easier to give it away to someone else in turn.

daily word - every good work

Are you an evangelist? My Great Commission was given to all believers, but some people have special gifting in this area. Are you an intercessor? Prayer is a characteristic of all believers but again some are called to this as a specific ministry when others are not. Is there anything in the listings of offices and callings that any believer cannot step up an do as the opportunity presents or as the need arises? Do you believe that you can do all things through me? My word speaks of vessels of honor that are equipped for every good work. You can be one of these.

daily word - tribe?

Do you belong to a tribe? You may consider this to be a quaint and antiquated concept, but ancient Israel was divided into tribes, and the same impulse is present today even if you use different terminology. Do you think of your denomination as a tribe? Does it give you a unique sense of identity and belonging? Do you see your group as separate and distinct from others? Do those outside your group see it this way even if you do not? There is great value in associating with and living as a part of a faith community.

daily word - chosen

My word says many are called, but few are chosen. Both of these terms imply an external action directed at you. So are you chosen? Do you have a choice? The statement indicates that you are the one being chosen rather than the one doing  the choosing. There are some cases in which a military commander will ask for volunteers. The commander could choose anyone he wanted but he chooses the volunteers. Is it important to you to be chosen? To be chosen implies that you were desirable in a selective process. It is an expression of acceptance.

Are you aware that you see in a glass darkly? But you have my promise that one day you will see face to face, and know as you are known. But this promise is for the end of the age rather than near term. Do you look forward to this and find it disappointing that you will have to wait so long? You can change your perspective to see this in a more positive way. Even though you see in a glass darkly, do you take comfort in the fact that you are known, even now, fully and completely, by the all-knowing one who loves you without measure?

Daily Word - why?

Have you ever wondered why I do what I do? Would it be easier to obey me if you knew my purpose in advance? Have you inquired of me about my motives and received no reply? I do not routinely explain myself or submit to examination. Do not assume that you could comprehend my ways, but I long to reveal them to you. Who has known my mind, or given me counsel? Yet I reveal things to you by my Spirit as you walk in them. Haven’t you found this to be true already? Can’t you look back and see how my hand was in things you didn’t understand at the time? The same principle applies now.

Do you feel free to bash other faiths? There is a level of essential disagreement with those who hold different world views, and these are points at which you may not yield or compromise. But you can agree to disagree agreeably, and be respectful in your differences. You can do this without invective or attack. You have observed those who make it a personal crusade to denigrate other faiths by any means available. Do you think that this advances the cause of truth? Do you have any record of me doing this?

Daily Word - Social Class?

Do you live is a society with rigid social castes and classes? In these situations everyone knew where they belonged in the order and considered it their destiny to remain there. Fortunately these absolute barriers to upward mobility are becoming rare. Yet even without the rigid assignments you cannot assume that you live in a classless society. You still know who is above and below you, and they know it too. Do you try to obtain favor with those above you and hold yourself aloof from those below?

daily word - anger limit?

I taught you to be angry and not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath. This does not require you to be angry, but it does require you to limit the duration of it if you are angry. Can you do better yet? Depending on the time of day you are offended, you could claim several hours of righteous anger. But how righteous is your anger? How often does your anger work for redemptive purposes? Find a way to transform your anger into a righteous response, or let it go. You don’t have to wait until sundown to do this. The sooner you can let go of your anger the better.
