I took in the room. People were milling about setting up equipment for the days activities. They chatted, joked, and smiled as they worked. They’d done it before. It was like completing the same puzzle for the millionth time.
I swiveled and noticed a woman. She was a few inches over five feet with brown hair that hung just above her shoulders. Her mouth was a straight line and keen eyes scrutinized every movement. She was the boss. Let’s call her, Ann. This was her project.
But as I gazed at her, things began to change. The air above her head started to swirl in tune with my spirit. Then, a shot of blue streaked up the left side of her head giving her an eye-catching highlight. I listened to the Lord begin to explain.
I’ve given her the gift of creativity. She used to sing and dance and I loved it, but she stopped. Some things have happened in her life that caused her to hold back much of that artistic ability I’ve given her. I love her so much. I want her to be free.
I stood motionless taking in what the Lord was sharing with me. It wasn’t long before I felt the familiar nudge to go deliver the vision I’d seen and the words I’d heard.
“How’s it going?” I asked with a smile.
Ann raised her chin. “Pretty good. We’re just about ready.”
“Looks like they know what they’re doing,” I observed.
“Yeah, these guys are good.”
I shifted gears. “So, sometimes the Lord shows me different things for different people. I wanted to know if it’d be okay if I shared what he showed me for you.”
Ann yanked her eyes from the crew and couldn’t keep the anticipation from her voice. “Sure. That’d be fine.”
I explained the vision and shared the words God gave me. I watched her eyes grow wide and something child-like flicker deep within. “God loves you so much,” I gushed. “He want’s you to be free in the gifting’s and passions he’s given you. He wants you to be free period.”
Ann fell silent for a few moments before giving a short laugh. When she raised her head a smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. “You have no idea how many cathedrals I’ve been in. I’ve spent hours on my knees all over the world trying to get close to God in front of countless altars.”
“And it’s here in this dusty room that he gave me those words for you,” I cut in. “He wants to speak to you wherever you are. He loves you enough not to require you to go to a certain place or be a certain way. In fact, his love for you has no conditions.” I paused. “The God of the universe took the time to speak to you in this little room in a tiny part of the world. That’s love beyond our wildest imagination.”
Her grin was wide. “Thank you so much for sharing that.” She motioned to the room. “Now, let’s get this thing going.”
People are waiting for God. Many may not even realize it, but they are just the same. All around us people are searching for something to put their hope in. Let’s take great courage and be the ones to show them a well that will never run dry. Give them something eternal rather than temporary distractions.
Your experience may not look exactly like mine but if your being led by the Lord it will be just as or even more impacting.
