This is Jesus

Jesse Birkey's picture

I sat in the gym and looked at the people around me.  They were doing their thing-lifting weights, running on cardio equipment and what not.  I started to wonder about Jesus and what He would be doing if here were physically there.

Already being in awesome shape He might not be too worried about working out…maybe the preacher curl station.  Lame jokes aside, I think He would probably be looking for someone to love on.

So I decided to look for the same.  Immediately noticed a man to my right.  He was about my age and talking to someone on the other side of him.  I asked the Lord if there was anything He wanted me to say or do and right away He began to share with me about the man and asked me to let him know what He was saying.

So I tapped the guy on the shoulder and introduced myself.  He had a big smile on his face so that made it easier.  I asked him if I could share what the Lord pressed on my heart and he told me that I could.

I began to share with him all of the encouraging things the Lord told me about him (I love how encouraging and loving God is when He speaks to us.  If His voice is harsh, cold and angry to you then you’re not hearing Him correctly).

I then shared with him what the Lord wanted to change in his life, what He wanted to set him free of.  The fire, the passion never left the mans eyes.  There was a depth there as God was touching the man’s heart in many different ways in a very short amount of time.

I made a friend that day.  When we see each other there are always smiles and handshakes.  This is Jesus.  This is God pouring Himself out onto humanity because of His great love for us.  No matter where we are or what we are doing, He is there loving us.

There is another picture of Jesus just too awesome not to share.  We find it in Revelation chapter 1:13-16.  Revelation is an apocalyptic book (a little technical bear with me).  In this type of genre nothing is to be taken literally.  It’s all symbolic.  For me, this doesn’t hurt the description of Jesus it makes it even more captivating.

1.     Jesus is standing in the midst of a lampstand with 7 candlesticks.  7 is the number of completeness.  This represents the complete church with many different expressions and Jesus holds it all.  The Church is preserved through Him.

2.     His robe represents the clothing of a Judge.

3.     His white hair is symbolic of great wisdom.  We are getting a picture of a wise judge.

4.     His eyes are on fire.  This is symbolic of His piercing eyesight.  He sees through the lies and deception.  He sees through the masks we put on.  Nothing is hidden from Him.

5.     The bronze feet are symbolic of coming judgment.  They are strength and stability.  He is coming to bring judgment against lies and deception.

6.     The sword coming out of His mouth is the Word.  It’s Truth.  It slays lies and deception.

7.     His face was like the Sun.  Jesus is the essence of God’s glory.  Remember the transfiguration.  He outshined Moses and Elijah.  Jesus is the glory of God manifested.

8.     His voice of many waters represent the raw power of His words to change and move anything in it’s way.

I love this.  This is what man I spoke with experienced.  Jesus came and in His great wisdom and piercing eyesight uncovered and judged the lies he had believed.  He then slayed those lies with the mighty sword of His truth.  He set the man free with the raw power of His words that the kingdom of darkness cannot stand against.  His perfect love was unveiled as Jesus shone like the sun, brining light to the darkest parts of his heart.

And He uses people like you and me (the complete church founded and preserved in Him) to work all of this through.

Blessings,
